Gear and Setup
The Setup
Over the years, I’ve refined my setup to balance creativity with practicality. Here’s a look at what goes into making the music.
Software
The digital heart of the studio:
- DAW - Logic Pro for composition and mixing
- Soft synths - A curated collection for different sonic palettes
- Effects plugins - From surgical EQs to experimental granular processors
- Mixing tools - Analog-modeled compressors and limiters
Hardware
The physical instruments and gear:
Synthesizers
- Classic analog synths for rich, warm tones
- Modern digital synths for complex sound design
- Semi-modular units for experimental patches
Audio Interface
A quality audio interface is the bridge between the analog and digital worlds. Low latency and clean preamps are essential.
Monitoring
- Studio monitors for accurate mixing
- Quality headphones for detailed work
- Treated room acoustics for reliable sound
MIDI Controllers
- Keyboard controller for playing and recording
- Pad controller for drums and sampling
- Knobs and faders for hands-on mixing
Philosophy
The gear is just a tool. What matters most is the idea behind the music. Expensive equipment won’t write a good song, but the right tools can help bring a vision to life more effectively.
Always Evolving
The setup is never truly finished. New tools get added, old ones get retired. The goal is always to serve the music, not the other way around.
